About Us

Founded in 1833 by Joseph R. Brown and later joined by Lucian Sharpe, Brown & Sharpe has stood at the forefront of precision engineering for nearly two centuries.

From pioneering some of the earliest machine tools to establishing foundational industry standards—such as the Brown & Sharpe Taper and contributions to the American Wire Gauge (AWG)—the name has long been synonymous with quality, innovation, and craftsmanship.

In 2001, Brown & Sharpe was acquired by TESA, becoming part of its metrology division and further advancing its legacy in dimensional measurement.

In 2023, TESA and the Brown & Sharpe license were acquired by Great Star Group, opening a new chapter in the brand’s story.

Today, we are proud to introduce a new generation of Brown & Sharpe products—engineered with the same dedication to accuracy and durability that defined the original.

This revival reflects our continued commitment to excellence, meeting the demands of modern manufacturing with trusted precision.
